In the spring of 1988, the Bishop Kelly Alumni Association established its first scholarships to Bishop Kelly High School. It began with five $100 scholarships to incoming freshmen at Bishop Kelly High School. At least one of the scholarships each year goes to a son or daughter of a Bishop Kelly alumni who enrolls at Bishop Kelly High School.

Anyone interested in applying for the scholarships send their name, address, and telephone number, along with a short essay, "Why I want to go to Bishop Kelly High School," c/o Bishop Kelly Alumni Association, P.O. Box 1861, Boise 83701.

Essays are judged by a single member of the Board of Directors and the essay is judged on originality, sincerity, scholarship and overall quality of presentation. Chris Bieter, a board member of the Bishop Kelly Alumni Association, has been in charge of the scholarship program and judges the scholarship applications each spring. All incoming freshmen are eligible to apply.

The Bishop Kelly Alumni Association has awarded scholarships every year. We have increased both the number of scholarships given and the amount of each scholarship.

The money to finance AlumKnight scholarships comes from the general fund of the Bishop Kelly Alumni Association, obtained through the annual golf tournament, 3 on 3 basket ball tournament, and occasional direct mail requests to alumknights.

In 1997 $5,000 was raised through our golf tournament for the Joseph P. Pape Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is administered by the Pape family. Joe graduated from Bishop Kelly in 1979 and passed away November 22, 1996.

In 1998 we awarded $2,300 in scholarships to Bishop Kelly students in memory Gard Skinner, Sr., from donations to the Bishop Kelly Alumni Association in Gard?s memory.
