TELL US YOUR MEMORIES OF BK (excerpts from the 20-year reunion book)
Dave Abajian – I’ll have to think about that one …
Maria “Rani” Asla Simmons – Skipping out of Sociology class when we went to the Elk’s and thinking we didn’t get caught and later receiving a detention slip. My partners in crime were Shirley Lyons and Linda House …
Karen Balbas Vickers – “House decorating” Junior year Homecoming. Mr. Policeman was very nice …
Colleen Brady Holtz – Girls Basketball winning District 1977 (Jr. yr.) and winning the “Award of Excellence” for Cheerleading in Portland, Oregon …
Andy “Potis” Brunelle – George Pletcher starts a fire under the bleachers in the gym and makes me student body president …
Bibiana Bryson Nertney – Taking a first at the State Speech and Debate finals in Idaho Falls …
Monica Cannon Clements – Since I only attended as a freshman, I only remember bits and pieces …
Mary Carpenter Brown – DQ at intermission in nun’s attire! The rest you don’t want to know! …
Judy Cole Dishner – Lunch at Al’s Place with Tami Conway…
Tami Conway – Graduation …
Tim Cronin – Graduating …
Karen Daly – Watching the seniors drive a VW Bug down the front hall at BK …
Sheila Davis Keim – Doughnuts in Fr. Dodgson’s class; going off campus with friends, and forging notes from Mr. Skinner …
Theresa Erstad McLeod – Participating in the different clubs and activities like cross-country, student body, ski team. It seems like we had a lot of various opportunities to participate since our school was small …
Tony Fischer – Graduations and those parties …
Jim Ford – Either too many or too few to recall just one “most memorable”…
Carl “Sto” Fritz – Actually, I was in a fog most of the time …
Michele Fritzler Bonneau – Spiking the eggnog in our Christmas Home Ec. Meal (Jr. yr.) with Colleen Brady, Jean Brown and Margaret Huerta. Mrs. Anton loved it! …
Jeff Halligan – Getting the “worlies” in English after Sr. out to lunch day …
Dick Hamill – The class of “78 was the first class to successfully execute a “Senior Ditch Day” and the 1978 SRV championship baseball team…
Clint Hammond – Just all the good parties we had…
Curt Hardy – Keg at the Brennan Estate on Plano Ln. I think my mom got half the class in trouble looking for me…
Pat Harrington – Beating Vallivue in football Jr. yr. – finally. (Sorry, I didn’t go the to Greenbelt)…
Tami Heffner Kerensky – It was all memorable…
Jeff Hippler – Graduation…
Todd Holterman – I’m trying to forget them…
Paul Hopfenbeck – Watching Pat Lawless make-out with Sarah _____ at the prom, which normally wouldn’t be a big deal, except she happened to be my date! [last name withheld to protect the guilty] …
Margaret Huerta – My sophomore year I crawled through a window late at night to get my car keys from the girls locker room. I managed to get from one end of school to the locker room and out to my car before the outside lights went on and Fr. Wilson’s dog began to bark…
Bernie Jacoby – Senior Skip Day party at Mary Brushs’ house. Close second: the day Steve Luchte put me upside down into the boys locker room trash can…
Bill Johnson – Hangin’ with “Hozerman” – nothing could be more entertaining!
Chris Jones – 3 years of 2 a days, shower room quartet, Pucket-Tiller Golf Classic, the only 10 cent apple machine and the friendships…
Lisa Lawless – Cruising Main St. with Shirley, Kris, and Rani after my first football game at BK. Nobody cruised downtown in Atlanta…
Kathy Leonard Logan – School musicals – Sound of Music and Once Upon a Mattress, enjoying friends and Latin II classes…
Shirley Lyons O’Neil – Sr. year, Pep Club President, winning the A-2 State Championship for tennis…
Dan “Red” Malarkey – Getting busted at a party when I was a freshman …
Andy Maupin – Driving from Banks to Horseshoe Bend without headlights at night with Paul H. and Jeff H…
Randy Mendiola – Sr. Skip Day (we used beer as a chaser for cheerios) ...
Annette Murray Brown – Father Peter as a Journalism teacher! Having mom write notes so I could skip Fridays to go skiing! She never got in trouble. I graduated and use my skiing skills every winter …
Chellie Richardson VanLith – Working with Mr. Capper at BK during the summers and Homecoming activities…
Larry Richter – Sr. Skip Day – what a party! …
Beth Rinker Mills – There are many, but I guess the back-stage antics during “The Sound of Music” are a highlight…
Patty Rourke Whipps – Homecoming week: Bonfire, game and dance…
Terry Scanlan – The day when Fr. Wilson said “Scanlan, you’re a horse’s ass and you’ll always be a horse’s ass”…
Mike Shalz – When Jeff Halligan set Borah’s bonfire ablaze…
Beth Sowell Holcomb – The trip to Portland with Drillteam…
Kris Sundbeck – Walking home from the Veteran’s Park party the night before graduation with Andy Maupin…
Christina Thometz Hammond – Graduation…
Jane “Tilly” Tillotson Henkel – Cleaning the school after Sr. Skip Day…
Marie Tolliver-Nelson – Sheila Davis “mooning” cars on the way to field hockey games…
Bridget Vaughan – Social Problems Class…
Laura Vuylsteke Stewart – Graduation …
Mike “Zeus” Zuzel – Breaking my back just before Homecoming Sr. year as a way to nail the “Mr. Pep” award.

Hey Jeff, speaking of looking younger, I thought a photo of my daughter Gwen would help spruce up the message board. Gwen turned four in December and enjoys pre school, bike rides in the neighborhood, Candyland, and messing up the house.

Speaking of the house, for those who care Betsy and I are still holed up on the east end of town less than a block between where Peterson lived in high school and where Keyes grew up; about 4 blocks north of Talik's old place. This place is close enough to Warm Springs Golf Course where Pete, Joe, Sto and I hook up on an irregular basis.

Hey ya'all! The reunion was certainly a great time! It was a kick to see how well we all turned out . . . I'm sure Fr. Wilson had his doubts. I'll be heading back for Boise early this summer to visit my family -- hope I'll be able to run into a few of you. Take care and God Bless You all as we begin our "second forty years!"

So I'm standing in Union Station in Seattle a coupla weekends ago, waiting to pick up my wife on the Amtrak from Portland, when I hear this voice from about 20 years ago. No, it wasn't Peter Frampton, thank god, but Pete Peterson, just about to hop on a cross-country train. Honest, I'm sure I would have recognized you if we'd run into one another in Boise, Pete ...

Speaking of which, Cynthia and I will be in town for Jaialdi, last weekend in July. Hope to see everybody there.

I was in Union Station in Seattle a couple of weeks ago, and guess who I ran into ? Yes, Mike Zuzel. He thinks he's Peter Frampton. There he was, playing "show me the way," for money in Union Station. Poor guy didn't even know me. You'd think I'd be the one with the memory trouble. I finally did break through and Mike and I had a nice little visit. Mike, it was nice to see you. If Fran and I are fortunate enough to find a freight train that runs in your neck of the woods, we'll look you up. Take care, Pete

Finally, school is out!! For the first part of summer vacation, Katie (now 10) and Kelly (now 8) and I (keep reading) will be heading to Boise for the River Festival and the celebration of my big 40th (please note that my family moved the big day up by more than a month -- I suppose it was inevitable!) Anyhow, all my sisters, most of their husbands, none of the exs, as well as many many nieces and nephews(good Catholic Familiyes) will be arriving from the four corners of the world. I'd love to hear from ya'all -- we'll be at the folks' house for about two weeks. See you later! EB

Potis, So I was sitting in the local diner having a nice lunch with Jenni when I heard this voice from the past saying something that I could not comprehend. I stopped to listen, the voice was so clear, commanding and familiar that I lost all train of thought and had to figure out who it was. The thought of pounding on a center linebacker rushed through my veines. The gental touch of hands between my legs (SCARY THOUGHT NOW!!!). And the impression of Ken Krahn saying "If Bebe gets hurt you will truly know the meaning of pain" slamming into the back of my hollow skull. I turned and recognized the friendly face of John Brunnell. I stood up and looked at "Bebe", our eyes met and he said, "Holy Shit! It's Jeff Halligan! Hopefully the Holy Shit didn't dement the mind of Bebe's son JEFF (appropriatelly named after me I hope! At least I took the credit at this moment!!) It was a great moment meeting your nephew, he treated me like we should have treated the president had he shown up at one of our parties. It made my day. Hippy

Jeff- I recall back in '86 talking to Bebe about what to name his newborn son and I recommended naming him after the people Bebe most respected, which of course were the BK linemen. Clint Brunelle just did not have the right ring to it, so he chose a different name.

From: Potis

Happy new year to all. It started out a greate weekend with Oregon's thriller win over Texas, despite the last four minutes being a gut-wrencher as it looked like the Ducks wanted to find a way to give it away.

But the topper for closing out 2000 was at the 3 on 3 Alumknight Hoopfest where your fellow classmates (plus some help) brought home the hardware as the Class of '78/'79 were crowned champions of this event.

We started out slow, losing our first two games, to the class of '99 and then to the McCarthy's (Kevin '93 and Dennis '97) and Steve Bruce '68. I got a couple good fouls on Bruce, but he is as hard to move as Clint was back in football days. Shalz was about 2 for 20 in these games; I've never head so much cussing by one guy since Scarface.

Things turned around and we beat the class of 2000. These teams keep getting younger every year. We were then given the low seed in the metal round due to our 1-2 record. With this opportunity we posted wins over 1996 and rematch wins against the two teams who beat us in the round-robin.

Final victory was ours when we again beat the McCarthy/Bruce axis 10-7. The big turnaround came as Shalz got hot (when in a slump just keep shooting) Hondo crashed the boards as if there were no tomorrow, and I stayed on the bench. This set up, coupled with Bebe and Zig scoring most of the points was enough for us to win the coveted four foot tall trophy!

It is hard to believe that was almost 3 years ago already. Well it is hard to believe that I turn 41 in a week too. so much for the unbelievable. I heard Chellie just had her baby, a girl, you go girl. Jeff Halligan, great picture of you and your horse. I hope everyone has had a good year so far. I am ready for spring:)See ya, Colleen

Hey Guys!

I just found the BK site after 24 years. Some may remember me, though I did not graduate with you guys. I went to BK in 76 & 77. Hello to Paul H, Jeff H, Larry R, and the rest of you "freaks". I moved backed to Spokane after BK and graduated there. Though it was a public school, it's better than a GED. One time a couple years later, George P showed up at my door and spent a few days. Where's my shirt you swiped George? Thanks for the bag you left in my socks. Good thing my Mom didn't find it. I saw the photos from the 20 year reunion -- looking good people. I wish I would've known about it. Is there a 25 year reunion planned? Drop me a line and say hi.

Ideas for a 25 year reunion are welcomed. Since starting so late on organizing this, we might have to look to doing a Fall reunion. Some have thought to combine a Homecoming/Class of 78 reunion on the same weekend.

Received the following email from Chellie today ...

Hi Everyone,

Just confirmed with Shirley for her clubhouse on Sendero Dr. off Shaw Mountain Rd. at 7pm Monday May 19th for a planning meeting. Mark your calendars and let me know if you'll be making it. Also, if you think of anyone else who would like to help with the planning, just let them know the date and time. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Chellie

Since it looks like Buck is going to run for mayor it's all the more reason to get together and have a little fundraiser aspect to the reunion.

Greetings, My daughter Allie searched my name on Google and stumbled upon our BK Alumni site. She informed me that I am "missing". This note is to let you know that I am alive and have an address. I beat the odds. I have many of Mike Lukovichs cartoons posted on my refrigerator or in my office. Most of my friends and relatives are pro Bush. I live in Vancouver Wa. and work covering the NW U.S. as a salesman for Crane Corp. My daughter Kelsey is a sophomore at St. Mary's Academy in Portland Or., an all girls school. Sister Lillian would be ecstatic. My other daughter Allie is an eighth grader. She doesn't know it yet but she will be attending St. Mary's Academy too. My wife teaches middle school Art. I hope all is well with everyone and look forward to being with you at our 30th reunion. Best Regards, Todd

Greetings all! Happened to be doing an Ask.com search this a.m. and found this site. Nice to see so many familiar names and can't wait until the 30th to see the faces. I am writing during my prep period at Meridian Academy, an alternative high school for at-risk students in the Meridian School District. Yes, believe it, I am teaching English (Sister Lil would be so excited!) to the very high school students that some of us...well, many of us used to be and I have to say that I love it. Hope all of you are doing well and looking forward to seeing you in a couple of years. All my best, Michele

Hi everybody! I hope everybody had a Merry Christmas. Go see "The Nativity Story." I hear it's based on a true story. LOL!!! My 4 yr old daughter Oriana said at the end of the movie as they were fleeing to Egypt: "There's the baby Jesus, his mom the virgin Mary, and Joseph. But Joseph is not his daddy...God is his daddy." Pretty powerful stuff.

I thought I would update you on some contact information:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

God bless you all,

Bernie

I am responding to the above post looking for an address for me... I am currently living in Ireland with my Irish wife and 3 sons. I found the post while net surfing as a means to avoid studying for a final exam tomorrow (I'm in the final leg of an MBA)...

Anyway, phlawless@gmail.com...

Hey Everyone! Sorry Jenni and I missed the reunion sounded like a good turnout and a lot of fun. Jenni and I are starting another adventure in our life, an Outfitting business for multi day backcountry trail runs. We got the OK from the Outfitter and Guides Board and then the area that we got was flooded and blown out by the rains of July 22nd. Just our luck, it was deemed a Disaster area. On a sad note, I read that Mary and Denise are no longer with us. Our hearts go out to their families and loved ones. Though we may not see each other for long periods of time, the time we spent together will always be in our hearts and memories. Hope everyone is doing well.
