Our dear sweet Sue left us Wednesday and moved on to her next journey. She was surrounded by the love of her family and girlfriends. Sue was born Oct. 4, 1962 to Casey and Beverly Smit. She was raised in Nampa where she spent many memorable weekends in the outdoors camping and boating. She graduated from Bishop Kelly High in 1980. Sue married Scott Rivera in 1984. Scott says he knew immediately that Sue was the love of his life and soul mate. She gave birth to two beautiful children, Jenny and Nick, whom she adored. They will be left with fond memories of the fun they shared together on family vacations, listening to music, critiquing movies and weekend escapades to the mountains camping and jet skiing. In addition, Sue was a "surrogate mother," and kept a watchful eye on her nieces and nephews. Sue worked for St. Als for 20+ years until a heart condition forced her to stop in December of 2003. This was a very difficult transition for her as she took great pride in her work and was a support to many of her peers. During this time the love and support of her family and girlfriends was very dear to her heart. Sue loved to laugh and was blessed with an uncanny sense of humor and quick wit. She could find humor in most anything and was the queen of "TLAs." She would frequently remind us that her way of looking at the world was "a gift, not a curse." Life will just not be the same without her. Her Mother and Father preceded Susan in death. She leaves behind and will be greatly missed by her husband Scott and children Jennifer and Nick of Meridian, her brother Mike Smit of Boise and his daughter Alex, sisters Christine Thornton of Hailey and her husband Rod, and Debra Smit of Boise. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Luke“s CCU and 9th floor for their exceptional care of our "Tutie Mit." We would like to especially thank Gail Chauvin, Dr. Martha Cline and our favorite Uncle Pete for their kindness and compassion. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 7 p.m. under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, at Summers Funeral Home, Ustick Chapel, 3629 E. Ustick Rd., Meridian, Idaho. Interment will be at a later date. Donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 270 S. Orchard Suite B, Boise 83705 or you can also plant a daisy for Sue as those are her favorite flower.
I hope this finds all of you well. Just wanted to let you know that John Kennevick's mom (MaryAnne) passed away this last weekend. She was truly one of the world's great women, and a sweet and caring foster mother to a lot of us. If she put up with us for 30 years you know she was destined for Sainthood anyway!!! But our loss is Heavens gain, and she and Jack are reunited once again! Please keep JK in your thoughts and prayers, and if you ever walk outside and notice an especially beautiful day, look up at the sky and thank Mrs. K!
