1990- Nathan Krier, Jennifer Whitehead, Lena Potyondy, Patrick McCurry, and Sara Graff. Total: $500.
Winning Essay Example by Patrick McCurry: I was given a choice by my parents of which high school to attend: Boise High or Bishop Kelly. I thought it over and made the decision to attend BK. I think of Bishop Kelly as a family, not a school! There is a great feeling of unity there. I also feel religion is an important part of life. It gives you something to believe and base your life on. Bishop Kelly is a smaller school so I feel there will be more opportunities for sports and other activities. These are just some of the reasons I wish to attend BK.
1996- Karen E. Giles, Ashlee Eaton, Stephen Tratz, Ann Roberts, Jennifer M. Scharff, Peter Kriss, Andrew Ysursa, Ashley Kunz, Traci Karr and Sarah Larrinaga. Total: $1,000.
Winning Essay Example by Karen Giles: "The Benefits of Attending Bishop Kelly High School" Bishop Kelly's small setting has a strong sense of Christian family. I respect and believe that the mission of the school is to be fully Christ-centered. The Christian atmosphere will enable me to be comfortable by being surrounded by others who share my religious beliefs. Bishop Kelly will strengthen my Catholic faith and provide me with much support. Bishop Kelly's teachers get to know and watch over their students. I will work hard to obtain an extraordinary education (much needed in college). Bishop Kelly High School is a school I will be proud to attend.

Salvador “I Love BK” Villagas
Bishop Kelly is truly a school you can believe in. The first time I walked through those doors the sense of Pride, Security, Knowledge, and love I felt just filled me with sort of warmth I’ve never felt before. The exuberance I feel just being here, shows exactly why this school is the number one school in Idaho. I believe because this place has taught me how to.
Nick Tratz
Everyone has skills, talents, and unique characteristics that make them an individual. Bishop Kelly brings out those hidden qualities that make a person who they are. You can believe in Bishop Kelly because it unveils the best in everyone through activities, clubs, and most importantly, religious environment. Bishop Kelly creates a whole new world of opportunities and choices for its students.
Amy Barrutia
Bishop Kelly is a school you can believe in for many reasons. Bishop Kelly High School is united by its academic achievements, its sports achievements and art achievements. It is also united, however, buy the Catholic faith. The people at Bishop Kelly make you feel welcome and a part of their community. Bishop Kelly is a school I believe in, maybe you will too.
Matthew Sorge
Bishop Kelly may be small compared to other schools, but as the saying goes, “Big things come in small packages.” Because we have a small school we must work extra hard in academics and sports. We must believe in ourselves to be successful. I know that BK prepares us for college better then other schools. It also teaches us Catholic values which I think are important in life. This is why I believe in Bishop Kelly.
Dani McCormick
The only Catholic high school in the state of Idaho, I don’t know about you but I’m pretty proud to say I’m a Knight. Bishop Kelly is not only a school, it’s a home to thousands. Little kids that have grown up in black and gold only dream to become a Knight. BK is not only known for its outstanding athletics and academics, it is also known for its beliefs. BK is a place to come back to, a place of love, a place you can believe in!
Laura Guth
The simple six letter word “school” is basic, but when you place Bishop Kelly High in front of school you create a noun that has a significance all by itself. The creation is Bishop Kelly High School. Bishop Kelly is not just any school, it is a school that stands for the belief in a higher power. A believe that each student that attends Bishop Kelly will come away with the knowledge that creates character. Each student is unique, but we are all the same through Christ. At Bishop Kelly we are taught dignity through Christ. May we always strive to believe in ourselves through our school -- Bishop Kelly High School.
Amy Lee
Bishop Kelly is a school you encourages students to do well in their studies. Bishop Kelly sets standards that students strive to excel in while getting everyone involved. This high school is a very welcoming community that teaches students to believe in themselves and to put their trust in God.
Emma Marie Murray
To me, Bishop Kelly is a school you can believe in. It is a place you go not only to learn but to pray, smile, and be a part of a family. You can believe that you will always feel welcome and know that you can come back and visit in another ten years. It is a place where the Knight have victories on the courts, in the fields, along with on paper. Bishop Kelly is a school that one can always believe it to be here.
Eric Schlechte
You can believe in this school. Every day when you walk down the halls, you know that the teachers are there to support you. You can believe in this school. Father Pat will welcome you and say that “He loves you” If that doesn’t raise your spirits, there is always Doc. He’ll say “Hi” and make you remember it. Once again, this is a school you can believe in!
Matt Gier
Bishop Kelly is a school that helps you through the tough times in life. With an excellent staff, BK is a school that any one can believe in. It is also a school of high moral standards that students are expected to live up to for the rest of their lives. That’s why you can believe in Bishop Kelly.
Three years ago the annual Alumknight golf tournament proceeds went to a special cause. The goal was to raise $5,000 to begin a scholarship for a Kelly student in Joe's name. With the help of donations from friends and family, we have now built the scholarship foundation to $40,000. Each spring a junior Kelly student is awarded a $2,000 scholarship for his or her senior year. The 1999 JPP Scholarship recipient was Tia Sinclair. The 2000 recipient was Ben Zamzow. We are proud of these students and their representation of Bishop Kelly High School. We now have even loftier goals. Eventually, we hope to fully fund the senior year's tuition for a worthy student.
